- Thanks for your interest in MacDOS.
-
- MacDOS provides a Command Line Interface for for the Mac. Its main
- purpose is to let you manipulate large numbers of files and folders
- through scripts and wildcarding, but it can do much more. Here are
- some of thelatest features:
-
- * Typed and pasted text is automatically appended to the command line.
- * Quoted file and folder names are selectable with a single double-click.
- * A new character set distinguishes between characters that are identical
- in the Monaco font.
- * Font size within the console window is selectable.
- * File and folder names are automatically completed when you press the
- TAB character.
- * You can quit the Finder by typing "exit finder".
- * The new command MEM lists information on the running processes.
- * You can now re-boot your Mac with RESTART and SHUTDOWN.
- * MacDOS can launch compiled and text AppleScripts.
- * You can define global variables accessible within the command line
- and in scripts.
- * The command SERIAL lets you receive commands from and send output to
- the serial ports.
- * MacDOS is fully AppleScriptable.
- * MacDOS can be extended with pipable filter applications. You will
- find in this package both a shell C code and examples, so that you can
- develop your own extensions.
- * An abbreviation mechanism lets you now insert into the command line
- long strings by just pressing few keys.
-
- The name "MacDOS" is justified by the fact that most of the commands
- are modelled on DOS. Please, do not ask me to make a MacUnix, because
- my next product will be something totally different.
-
- This version 3.0 is the first offered as shareware. This is very good
- news for you, because you are getting the functionality of a commercial
- product at a shareware price.
-
-
- This package consists of the following folders:
-
- executables
- containing the MacDOS application and lots of goodies.
-
- manual
- containing several MS-Word files adding up to well above 100
- pages of information. The first few sections of the manual will
- give you a good introduction to the program.
-
- reviews
- containing what some magazines had to say about this or older
- releases of MacDOS.

-
- MacDOS costs 50 Swiss Francs. After trying it out for a couple of
- weeks you should either remove it from your system or pay for it.
- You can send me the payment as follows:
-
- * Cash (only banknotes, NO COINS) wrapped in a sheet of a paper
- (note that in some countries this might be illegal). To save you
- the trip to the bank (and the excuse for not paying me!), I will
- accept from some countries payments in their local currency: all
- countries of the European Union, Australia, Canada, Japan, USA.
- Just convert 50 Swiss Francs (or 40 US Dollars, if you are more
- familiar with them) to your currency and round it up to the
- nearest amount payable with paper money.
-
- From any other country, pick your currency or even look at the
- drawer were you keep your travelling stuff and send me a mix
- of currencies (ONCE MORE, NO COINS). For example, USD 30 are
- 75% of the price. You can make up the rest with CAD 15.
-
- * A cheque issued in CHF on a Swiss account. Make it payable to
- Giulio Zambon. Add the sentence "Nur zur Verrechnung" (which
- means "not negotiable").
-
- * A Eurocheque in Swiss Francs. Write the number of your EC-card
- on the back of the cheque. Make it payable to Giulio Zambon.
- Cross it by drawing two lines across one of the top corners.
-
- * An international money order in Swiss Francs. Make it payable
- to Giulio Zambon and "not negotiable".
-
- Send your payment with your name and address[es] to:
-
- Giulio Zambon
- Im oberen Boden 72
- CH-8049 Zurich
- Switzerland
-
- In exchange for your payment, you will receive (via E-mail if you
- are on the Net, otherwise on a floppy) an additional section of the
- manual with a full command reference guide. You will also have
- access to me for technical support of MacDOS via E-mail.
-
- Last but not least, if you honestly think that MacDOS is not worth
- its price, have the guts to tell me!
